Location: Various Firefly program sites and community locations
Organization Overview
Since 1991, Firefly has been dedicated to supporting children and families through compassionate, community-centered services. Firefly provides programs in Early Head Start, public health, and maternal health services, helping families build healthy, strong, and thriving futures.
Position Summary
Volunteers play an important role in supporting Firefly’s mission by assisting staff, engaging with children and families, and helping create welcoming, safe, and supportive environments. Volunteers may assist with classroom activities, family events, administrative support, community outreach, and other program needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Support staff with daily program activities and special events
- Assist in creating a positive, respectful, and inclusive environment for children and families
- Help prepare materials, organize supplies, and maintain clean activity areas
- Participate in family engagement activities and community outreach events
- Provide clerical or administrative assistance as needed
- Read to children, assist with learning activities, or support classroom engagement under staff supervision
- Assist with health, wellness, or educational initiatives within Firefly programs
- Model professionalism, kindness, and positive communication
- Follow all organizational policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures
- Attend volunteer orientation and any required trainings
Qualifications
- Interest in supporting children, families, and community well-being
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Dependable, flexible, and team-oriented
- Must successfully complete any required background checks or screenings
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout program areas and participate in activities
- Ability to lift light materials or supplies as needed
- Ability to communicate effectively with staff, children, and families
