Position Title: Dental Direct Services Hygienist
Direct Supervisor: I-Smile Coordinator
Supervisory duties: None
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Primary Function: Under general supervision, the Dental Direct Services Hygienist provides direct dental services to eligible clients in a variety of community, school, childcare, and clinic settings throughout the service area. They connect clients and community members to oral health care providers. This position is grant-funded.
Qualifications:
Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH); AND one (1) year of clinical experience in private practice, schools, hospitals, or community/public health settings required. Experience with pediatric population preferred.
Applicable local, State, and Federal laws, codes, regulations, and ordinances.
Records maintenance and retention policies, procedures, and practices.
Community health resources and services.
Dental hygiene practices.
Dental equipment operation and maintenance.
Abuse identification and mandatory reporting to appropriate entities.
Medicaid program, including components of Iowa’s Periodicity schedule.
Knowledge of community resources helpful
Valid Driver’s license required. If use of personal vehicle, proof of insurance must be provided.
PC literate to include Microsoft office and database systems
Certification in CPR/1st Aid/AED
Essential Functions:
Interacting tactfully and professionally with Firefly team members, outside agencies, and the public.
Evaluating dental health concerns.
Reading, interpreting, and following protocols and standard operating procedures.
Gathering and analyzing data.
Maintaining accurate records and documentation.
Operating a computer and including standard software and some specialized software.
Typing and entering data with speed and accuracy.
Working efficiently independently and in a team.
Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
Communicating effectively with others verbally and in writing, including sharing complex information using plain, non-technical language with clients.
Provide services to diverse communities and families. Respect for and sensitivity to the needs and rights of others, including those with differing cultural, racial, sexual, or ethnic identities.
Maintain confidentiality of all families and team members.
Meet all documentation and productivity standards ensuring data entry and billing paperwork is entered in a timely manner

Work environment for this position can be varied, including time spent in the office, in a car, or on-site, which may include the Mobile Wellness Unit or a screening area set up in a school or community center. Work is performed in Cass, Harrison, Mills, Monona, Pottawattamie and Shelby counties at various locations.
May be exposed to potential physical harm and infectious diseases when working with clients.
